Parish Nurse PDF Print E-mail

The Parish Nurse leads a Health Ministry team to minister to the health needs of the church community, with Spiritual Care as the central emphasis. This is a continuation of Jesus’ commission to care for those in need, “to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick” Luke 9:2.

The Parish Nurse engages the therapeutic qualities of church, community and faith in God to promote health and healing. This includes collaborating with the Pastoral staff, volunteers who provide care-giving related services and other health care professionals in the congregation.

Services provided:

  • Health and wellness counseling and referral to resources
  • Support groups including for women with cancer and those in grief
  • Monthly Newsletters Healthy Tidings, health related bulletin board and library
  • Provide health educational opportunities such as Living Well with Chronic Conditions class, Walk to Jerusalem, nutrition classes
  • Coordinate volunteers for meals, transportation, visitation, etc.
  • Involvement with our sister church Castillo Fuerte in Guatemala
  • Hospital and home visitation for spiritual support and health consultation and recommendations (this does not involve "hands-on" care)
